Person finder app from the google crisis team

Person Finder is the special app launched by Google, the search engine giant mainly to trace thousands of people who went missing in the Himalayan Tsunami.

Since last week, the state of Uttarakhand in India has been struggling with severe floods. It is clear that most of these areas in the state are highly not reachable with sporadic communication, Google Crisis team brought in the Person Finder,” Google APAC senior Product Manager, Jayanth Mysore, said in the blog post.

This, Google’s crisis response app is an online database that allows relatives and friends to trace anyone missing after the tragedy.

News says that around 14,000 people are missing as of now. It is also expected that the floods in northern India namely Uttarakhand, Kedarnath may result in the increase in number of death who were missing.

With Hindu shrines set amid its stunning scenery, Uttarakhand is often referred to as “the Land of Gods.”

Rescue Operations focuses around 27,000 people who were stuck in the worst-hit of Kedarnath temple area – one of the holiest Hindu temples of Lord Shiva, located at the top of the Garhwal Himalayan range.

Unlike other areas this area has escaped from major damages but it is now covered with debris and the bodies of pilgrims which had turned it into a ghost town.

The tool is designed in such a way that the database is fully available to the public so that they can access the missing ones. The tool is presented in both English and Hindi version.

The app showed its determination during the strong earthquake in Japan, 13-foot Tsunami and also during the Boston Marathon bombings. But in India it is bit uncertain about the tool because most of the stranded victim may not have a viable internet connection.

Whatever it is Google is sure that the app will play a vital role in the rescue measures. Smiley
