Barack Obama – America’s first African American president

Wednesday Nov 5, 2008

Washington, Nov 5 (IANS) Democrat Barack Obama has won a historic victory in the race for the White House with Republican rival John McCain conceding defeat. TV projections gave Obama an unbeatable 297 to 139 lead in electoral votes even as results kept coming in.

Obama, who would be America’s first African American president, was projected the winner of the epic battle by CNN and ABC at 11 p.m. (9:30 a.m. IST Wed) with wins in crucial battleground states taking him over the 270 vote magic figure.

As polls closed on the West coast, the Illinois senator was projected to win California, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii as also Virginia, a state that hasn’t voted for a Democratic president since 1964.

On the road to victory Obama won Ohio, a key battleground in American presidential politics, and held off assaults by McCain in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, the top two states that Democrats won in 2004 and that McCain had fought to take back.

Obama won victories across the northeast, sweeping every state in New England as well as New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and his home state of Illinois.

McCain won a number of southern states, including West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana.

The first exit polls out Tuesday put economy as by far the top issue on the minds of voters.

Sixty-two percent of voters said the economy was the most important issue. Iraq was the most important for 10 percent, and terrorism and healthcare were each the top issue for nine percent of voters.

The economy had dominated the last leg of the campaign trail as Obama and McCain tried to convince voters that they are the best candidate to handle the financial crisis.

Voters expressed excitement and pride in their country after casting their ballots Tuesday in what has proved to be a historic election.

Poll workers reported high turnout across many parts of the country, and some voters waited hours to cast their ballots.

Overseas Loans May Get Costlier Next Year

Tuesday Nov 4, 2008

Top corporate planning to raise funds abroad at cheaper rates may be in for a rude shock. Despite the expected end to the liquidity crisis next year, instead of a fall in their borrowing costs, they may have to pay extra as political/reform risk premium. The debt market has been bracing for a rating downgrade for India. ICICI Bank’s and Tata Motors’ credit default swaps (CDS) — derivatives that provide insurance against defaults — have been quoting at spreads of above 1,000 basis points (bps) for the past few days. CDS spreads measure the premium to the risk-free interest rate. Overseas borrowing costs for Indian companies have risen dramatically in the past one year. Last year, Indian corporates could raise five-year funds at Libor plus 50-75 basis points. This has now gone up to at least 350 bps above Libor. Reason for this is the reduction in appetite for Indian paper because of oversupply and high leveraging following M&A activity. Corporate profitability is seen to be under pressure. Also, Elections will result in lenders pricing in political risk premium, thus increasing cost. Fears of downgrade in the medium term continue to loom despite S&P reaffirmation.

Classical language status to Kannada and Telugu

Sunday Nov 2, 2008

The Central Government has decided to accede to confer the status of classical languages on Kannada and Telugu. This follows the recommendation of the Committee of Linguistic Experts set up by the government. The fight for the prestigious status for the two languages was launched by academicians and language experts in AP and Karnataka after the UPA government had accorded the classical language status to Tamil in 2004. To be classified as classical, a language must fulfill four criteria laid down by the government. Among them are that the language must have a recorded history of at least 1,500-2000 years and its literary tradition must be original and not borrowed from any speech community and must have a large and rich body of ancient literature. Till now, Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit and Tamil have been accorded classical language status. Actually What does getting the ‘classical’ tag mean? According classical language status would greatly boost research, preservation and spread of the language.

Favourite Song #2

Wednesday Oct 22, 2008

I love this song very much. I have a video also. This is a special dedication to my sweet hubby Sunil Manalody.

Movie – Pyar Tune Kya Kiya

Mujhko Khuda Ne De Diya Pyaar Tere Jo Saathiya
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Main Chalti Thi Raaste Ek Manzil Ke Waaste
Tujhse Milke Yun Laga Jana Mujhko Hai Kahan
Hum Dono Ko Milna Tha Jaana Pyaar Yunhi Khilna Tha Jaana
Meri Aankhon Mein Teri Saason Mein Bas Tu Hi Hai Jaana

Mujhko Khuda Ne De Diya Pyaar Tere Jo Saathiya
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Main Chalti Thi Raaste Ek Manzil Ke Waaste
Tujhse Milke Yun Laga Jana Mujhko Hai Kahan

Tu Rahe To Rahe Meri Zindagi Kehta Hoon Rab Se
Sang Tere Bitaoon Mein Har Khushi Ab Se Yahin Se
Tera Naam Meri Zubaan Se Na Jaaye
Jo Tu Na Rahe To Meri Jaan Jaaye
Meri Aankhon Mein Meri Hi Saason Mein Bus Tu Hi Hai Jaana

Mujhko Khuda Ne De Diya Pyaar Tere Jo Saathiya
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Main Chalti Thi Raaste Ek Manzil Ke Waaste
Tujhse Milke Yun Laga Jana Mujhko Hai Kahan

Faasle Ho Rahe Hai Kam Jaaneman Bas Ek Pal Mein
Ek Jaan Ban Gaye Hai Yeh Do Badan Bas Ek Pal Mein
Yeh Jo Bhi Nasha Hai Bada Hi Maza Hai
Yahan Dhadkano Ke Yehi To Sada Hai
Meri Aankhon Mein Meri Hi Saason Mein Bus Tu Hi Hai Jaana

Mujhko Khuda Ne De Diya Pyaar Tere Jo Saathiya
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Main Chalti Thi Raaste Ek Manzil Ke Waaste
Tujhse Milke Yun Laga Jana Mujhko Hai Kahan
Hum Dono Ko Milna Tha Jaana Pyaar Yunhi Khilna Tha Jaana
Meri Aankhon Mein Teri Saason Mein Bas Tu Hi Hai Jaana

Mujhko Khuda Ne De Diya Pyaar Tere Jo Saathiya
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Main Chalti Thi Raaste Ek Manzil Ke Waaste
Tujhse Milke Yun Laga Jana Mujhko Hai Kahan
Maano Jaise Mil Gaya Hai Jannat Ka Rasta
Tujhse Milke Yoon Laga Manzil Meri Hai Yahan

IT’S STRANGE ISN’T IT?

Monday Oct 20, 2008

Isn’t it strange how a 20 rupee note seems like such a large
amount when
you donate it to Church, but
such a small amount
when you go shopping?

Isn’t it strange how 2 hours seem so long when
you’re at Church, and how
short they seem when you’re
watching a good movie?

Isn’t it strange that you can’t
find a word to say when
you’re praying,
but you have no trouble
thinking what to talk about
with a friend?

Isn’t it strange how difficult
and boring it is to read
one chapter
of the Bible, but how easy
it is to read 100 pages of
a popular novel ?

Isn’t it strange how everyone
wants front-row-tickets
to concerts or
games, but they do whatever
is possible to sit at the last
row in Church?

Isn’t it strange how we need to
know about an event for
a Church 2-3
weeks before the day so we can
include it in our agenda, but we can
adjust it for other events in
the last minute?

Isn’t it strange how difficult it
is to learn a fact about God to share it
with others, but how easy
it is to learn, understand,
extend and repeat gossip?

Really strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right?
