Now a days I started to read more books. One of my friends suggested me Robin Cook and Michael Crichton

Prey is a highly recommended entertaining read. Michael Crichton, as most know, is the prolific author of many famous novels, many of which have been made into equally famous movies.

Jack Forman has been relegated to being a househusband after being unfairly fired from his job at MediaTronics. There, he was a manager as well as a programmer of cutting-edge code that emulated biological processes – that imitated life. He now stays home and takes care of the kids and, to his own surprise, is quite comfortable doing it. His wife, Julia, is the breadwinner now, working at a place called Xymos Technology. She is excited about the new products being developed there. The big corporate achievement is that of a new kind of medical imaging. Cameras – a swarm of camera parts actually, all working together – can be injected into the human body, each camera bit being no bigger than one-tenth of a billionth of an inch, smaller than microscopic dust. The science of producing such small pieces of machinery is called nanotechnology. The thousands of camera bits actually work together to produce an image due to an old program written by Jack, a program based on the swarming of bees, and “borrowed” now by Xymos to make their technology work.

Perhaps Julia is overworked? She is changing. Once a happy, personable woman, she is becoming short-tempered, edgy, even irrational at times. She hardly ever comes home any more, working longer and longer hours. Jack is worried about her. Is she having an affair? They have three children, a boy, a girl, and a baby, Amanda. Amanda takes ill one day, developing a terrible rash that covers her entire body. Julia is there at home but allows Jack to rush their daughter to the emergency room while she stays with the other children. The baby is howling and Jack believes she must be in pain. Julia is amazingly unconcerned.

The hospital performs many tests, but none seem to either help or explain the baby’s malady. But when Amanda is taken for an MRI, she suddenly stops howling, and as abruptly, the rash clears up, leaving as fast as it came. The baby is fine. What happened? What Jack doesn’t know then but will soon find out is that Amanda’s symptoms of illness were caused by a new kind of combined technological and biological creature, one that will very shortly threaten all of life on Earth.

I dont want to break the suspense. Go ahead and read. I completed the book in 2 sittings.

In my next posts I will tell you some other stories :)

Tamil movie Poo

Last week I happened to watch Poo. I liked it very much. ‘Poo’ is a simple love story set in a rustic mileu of Sivakasi. Adapted from the Tamil short story, ‘Veyyilodu Poi,’ by Chelvan, it revolved around Mari (Parvathy Menon) and her love for her cousin Thenkarasa (Srikanth) since her childhood days. Mari works in a crackers factory while Thenkarasa, pursues engineering in Chennai. Thenkarasa’s father, a bullock cart owner and a hard working soul nurtures aspirations for his son.

Mari often dreams of a life with Thenkarasa, but is tongue tied when she meets him. Egged by her friend, Cheeni (Inbanila), she tries to speak of her love to him, but fails. As for Thenkarasa, she is just his childhood friend until his classmate Uttara opens his eyes to Mari’s feelings for him. But his father’s aspirations force him to marry a rich man’s daughter.

Although Mari is disappointed, she marries another man and adjusts with the new life continues to love Thenkarasa in mind and wants him to be the happiest person in the world. When she comes to know that Thenkarasa’s marriage life is not a happy one, she can’t control her tears. The very last seen is too touching. Unlike other love stories, Poo scores with its unselfish love. There’s no fantasy and story is close to reality.

On her debut, Parvathy Menon has done a remarkable job as the village girl in love. In this role, she exudes a grace and coyness unseen today in the women of other love stories. Srikanth’s role is small yet significant. However the visuals are stunning and is a neat and clean movie that can be watched with the family. If you are looking for a fresh breath of air, watch Poo.

This is specially for my sweet Husband

Your warmness and your love
Grow within me every day
Your thoughtful little looks
And the funny things you say.
You are the one I care about
And the only one I need
From break of day until days end
I always follow your lead.

Despite our different opinions
And little short-lived fights
My feelings for you run freely
Like a blue sky full of kites.

For like the flight of a butterfly
Over ocean and mountain view
Your love becomes my life
As you make my dreams come true.

Thank you for our marriage
Make of fairy-tale and love
For being the perfect husband
And for our eternal love.

Happy Valentine, my love!
All my love is yours.
Praised be love that brings us home,
Pilgrims to these shores.

Yearnings here find harborage;
Vanities, sly smiles.
All that righteous anger rends,
Love here reconciles.

Even in the darkness where
No bitterness finds rest,
Thoughts of you are like a dawn
Intent on happiness.

Nor would I have so light a heart
Except that I am blessed!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Who was she to me? My sister, best friend, soul mate or more than that. Still I can’t believe that she’s no more in this world. Is death is so easy? I am talking about my best friend Saritha who died in a road accident on Jan 9th, 2009. I heard her voice few days before her accident. Still i can’t believe that she’s dead. I feel I can see her when I am going to my native and I can call her up anytime I want. Whenever I call she used to say ” Hii dear I was thinking to call you. But now you called me up”.

This is Saritha when I met her last – On my marriage reception

I met her first when she joined my school in 9th standard. We were in different divisions. I noticed her the first day. She was so pretty and attractive. She had big beautiful eyes. She was very good in studies too. I think we made a good friendship that time itself. In +2 we were in the same class. We were in the same tuition center also. Once, only we both girls cut the chemistry class and went to library and ate ice creams. 2 years went like that. After that we joined the new polytechnic came in our city. It was all planned. Many of our +2 friends joined there but we both only came in the same class – computer engineering. We made soul mates. If anyone sees me or Saritha alone he/she used to ask “Where’s your soul?” We got another 4 friends named Rasna, Anju, Divya and Shyja and made a gang “Super 6″. But then too we both shared a special bond. After seen “Kuch kuch hota hai” I and Saritha used to touch each others nose when we meet each morning-the same way Rahul and Anjali did. Many problems happened with other gangs but she was there with me for all good and bad things. We joined for computer tuition and skipped many classes and our tutor called us ‘Siamese Twins’.  We, Super 6, stayed together at her house 6 months to do our project. That time was my best memorable time in life. So much of fun, cooking experiments, uniform washing and ironing, movies, serials, birthday celebrations, extra curricular activities. Once our group photo came in television too. Our principal used to scold us for practicing songs and dances during study vacations and threat others that “these gang will do all these junks and get good marks. if you waste your study time by practicing these you all will fail”. There are countless funny and happy events occurred. But I feel my heart very heavy. I feel sometimes I will write a book about her – Lost my soul forever. Saritha was a girl of suffer and sacrifice. In her death’s shock what i lost was priceless. But I like to think that I sent a little angel with my best friend to take care of her.

Tip: Once she told me that sometimes the boy from the other batch Sunil A Manalody will marry you. I told her sometimes I won’t marry, but it will never happen. But after 7 years it happened! I don’t know how. Could she predict the future?

Another nice movie for kids and adults. Daddy Day Care is a 2003 American comedy film, starring Eddie Murphy. Charlie Hinton (Eddie Murphy), a busy working father, is laid off after the health division in his company is shut down. Desperate for money, he opens up a day care center with the help of two friends (Jeff Garlin and Steve Zahn). As it became more popular, a nearby school’s daycare became less populated, because Charlie’s center, Daddy Day Care, is much cheaper. Mrs. Harridan (Anjelica Huston), the headmistress of the competition school, attempts to shut down Daddy Day Care, but fails. Charlie and one of his friends are offered a better job and they decide to take it. But not long after, Charlie soon realizes that the job isn’t what he really wants to do. He returns to Daddy Day Care, only to learn that everybody left and went to the expensive school. He successfully convinces the children and their parents to come back, and Daddy Day Care becomes a raging success.

Now a days I am getting more time to watch movies and listen songs. I recently happened to watch Wild child. The story is about a teenager in her school. I really liked it. Watch it if you can. Definitely you too like it.

The film proper begins after Poppy’s long-suffering father sends her packing from their flash Malibu pad to an English boarding school, Abbey Mount. Faster  than you can say ‘whatever’, Poppy makes herself unpopular with her roommates by refusing to adhere to the school’s rules. She makes a particular enemy of  haughty head-girl Harriet, who has a thing for Freddie, the handsome son of the school’s headmistress, Mrs Kingsley.Distraught without her LA trappings – therapist, iPhone, and Jimmy Choo shoes – Poppy comes across like an extra from Mean Girls. At mealtimes she utters Buddhist chants while everyone else says grace, and then refuses to eat the food on offer, claiming she’s vegetarian, pescatarian and fruititarian. With the help of her roommates – who take pity on her when they discover Poppy’s mother died in a car crash when she was 11 – our girl resolves to leave the school by getting herself expelled.

Somehow she becomes very close her 4 roommates. The principal’s cute charm boy Freddie fell in love with Poppy Moor. And Poppy leads the school sports team in victory and becomes the pet of all in school. These things made Harriet jealous and she’s waiting for a chance to take revenge. Harriet sends mails to Poppy’s room mates and Freddie from Poppy’s email and all started to hate her. I don’t want to tell the entire story and spoil your interest in watching the movie. See how she comes out from all the problems.

Our Poppy is the one with blue color ribbon.
